少し前に関係者と食事をしたときに、「実はYouTubeは既に黒字なんです」と語っていた。なんでもここ１年半ほどで、映像配信技術が急速に進化し、配信コストが大幅に低下しているのだそうだ。
　それにこの映像配信に関する技術って非常にすばらしくて、グーグルの大黒柱でもある検索技術の改良にも大きなプラスの影響を与えているのだそうな。だから「YouTube買収はぜんぜん失敗ではないんです」ということらしい。

　Schmidt氏は次のようにも語っている。

5年以内に、通信速度が100Mbpsを遙かに超えるブロードバンドが登場するだろう。そして、テレビやラジオ、ウェブといった配信方法の違いは消えてなくなるだろう。

YouTubeはお荷物でもなんでもないんだし、今後グーグルがYouTubeを核に、映像ビジネスに力を入れてくることは間違いないと思うよ。
